Organic black tea is Camellia sinensis leaf that is fully oxidised after harvest, producing the dark leaf and coppery liquor typical of black tea—while the garden and factory meet certified organic rules (no synthetic pesticides or chemical fertilisers, documented traceability and annual inspection). Ceylon organic blacks from the Uva highlands often show bright, floral notes alongside briskness.
TEA TOP organic black teas use leaf from Idalgashinna, Haputale: FBOP (Flowery Broken Orange Pekoe) denotes a broken leaf with occasional tips that infuses quickly and cleanly.
Our Organic Black Teas
- Idalgashinna Organic Black Tea — pure FBOP from the estate; warm reddish cup, brisk Uva florals, everyday strength.
- Organic Earl Grey Tea — the same organic Ceylon black base scented with natural bergamot for a classic citrus-aromatic cup.
Organic vs Regular Black Tea
Regular black tea may be grown with conventional inputs. Certified organic black tea must comply with standards such as NASAA Organic, USDA NOP and EU Organic for the whole supply chain you buy from. Taste still depends on origin and grade—here, single-estate Uva leaf with decades of organic management.
How to Brew Organic Black Tea
- Water just off the boil (~93–100°C).
- Steep 3–5 minutes; 4 minutes is a good starting point for FBOP.
- About one teaspoon loose leaf or one pyramid bag per 200–250 ml cup.
- Serve plain or with milk; Organic Earl Grey is often enjoyed without milk.
